Vintage Collector's 1970s Janice Wainwright Kaftan
Details
A real showstopper, this rare - and utterly stunning - 1970s Janice Wainwright kaftan is a masterclass in textile art. Janice Wainwright is a queen of 1970s British design, and her work from the 'Forty Seven Poland Street' era is coveted by museums and collector's alike. It has beautiful, intricate embroidery that resemble floating clouds (one of her calling cards), and the needlework is flawless. You will certainly feel like a goddess floating in the clouds when wearing it.
There are endless opportunities for experimentation with this kaftan. It could be styled for a formal event, or even worn as an eccentric top garment for some stunning everyday wear. It has a button v neck with hand-covered material buttons, and the shape creates a hauntingly beautiful effect, and it has a delicate, yet somehow magnificent, feel.
DETAILS
Era: 1970s
Material: likely silk or chiffon (no composition label). Dry clean only.
Condition: This piece has been looked after well and is in very good vintage condition, especially when considering how delicate the fabric is. There are a few tiny nicks on the right shoulder, consistent with light wear from a handbag. There is one pin-sized hole on the front, but not noticeable amongst the fields of fabric when wearing. Also, there is one small repair at the base of the skirt (likely a heel snag) which we think adds to the party history of this fantastic piece.
