Vintage 1950s-1970s Witchy Grey Felt Top Hat | A. Kritz Ltd London
Details
A very lovely top hat in a silvery-grey felt that dates from somewhere between 1950–1970. A. Kritz Ltd. Of London, operating just off Baker Street, was a mid-century millinery well-known for producing excellent quality headwear for the city's upper classes, and this is great example of their work. The original leather sweatband is still in place, and the hat has been stamped with the Royal Coat of Arms as a mark of quality.
On the interior the sizing of 7 1/8 and the original business address has been etched. Sadly, this establishment is now an opticians! Nonetheless, the history is retained. Though originally made with men in mind, this is a great piece for those ladies with a Stevie Nicks spirit wanting to stand out at summer festivals or for period-piece dressing. Equally, it could just be a collector's piece for those wishing to preserve some British fashion history.
Era: c. 1950s–1970s (estimation, though the company operated earlier)
Materials: felt; leather; silk
Measurements: circumference: 22.5"; height: 5.5"
Condition: lovely vintage condition overall, retaining its shape very well. There is general age-related wear, as to be expected, but it does not affect its wearability. The felt and leather still look great. As always, please see photographs before purchase.
