Antique 1890-1910 Dark Blue Velvet Opera Jacket with Jet-Beaded Lace

A rare and exceptionally elegant piece of evening wear from the turn-of-the-century, this beautiful jacket, in a heavy, deep blue velvet, still retains an astounding depth of colour. It has some exquisite hand-stitched lace, hand-applied jet detailing, and intricate applique work that was done with tremendous skill. A gorgeous example of  historical handmade elegance that, even over a century old, is still incredibly wearable. There are so many different ways this could be styled in the modern setting.

Condition: Overall great condition for its age with some wear to the interior. There is also some minor thinning of material on front. Hand-stitched lace and jet has come loose in some places, but doesn’t affect the wear. One of the cuffs is missing a small piece of applique. Small rip in lace.
