Antique Ottoman Embroidered Waistcoat | Jimi Hendrix Bohemian Vest
Details
A proper majestic and rare antique find, this Ottoman/Balkan waistcoat likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is beautiful, with silk (we believe) inlays and a rich composition of colourful handmade details, such as the lovely gold embroidery and orange velvet trims. The back is a gorgeous bit of art, with an array of hand-stitched folk-style imagery. Originally, it would have been worn as a traditional decorative piece.
Some things are quite difficult to let go of: this is certainly one of them. A remarkable collector's piece, however, in our opinion, it's a vest that deserves a bit more life experience. It remains absolutely wearable for someone with a bohemian, bold vintage dress sense, and looks fantastic with a ruffled shirt and some flared denim jeans. Similar pieces were worn by Jimi Hendrix in the 1970s, and this is a stand-out number for festival fields and gigs.
