Antique Victorian Edwardian Top Hat | Made in Bristol, England
Details
A wonderful antique black top hat dating from around 1890-1910. The interior reads: “Fall & Yeoman, The City Hatters, 179 & 181 Gloucester Rd., Bristol,” which gives the piece a really lovely bit of local British history, with a tall black crown, black ribbon trim, and silk interior. The hat has some patina, as they say, with the crown starting to collapse, but this adds a certain character for those drawn to steampunk, gothic Victorian, Edwardian or old fashioned bohemian styling, or for a Stevie Nicks' style look. It's a bit of authentic antique that is hard to proper replicate in modern costume pieces. It is also just a marvellous collector's piece for those who wish to preserve a piece of English fashion history.
Details:
Era: Circa 1890-1910
Material: silk, and possibly beaver fur (though we are not sure!)
Condition:
In reasonable antique condition with visible age and wear throughout. The crown has started to collapse slightly in places, as expected for a hat of this age, and the silk inside has shattering, though the maker’s mark remains clear. Still very wearable with care, and a great historical piece. Please study the photographs carefully. It is dusty and could use a wipe-down, though we are leaving this up to the next owner.
