The Scarlet: Rare Edwardian W. Mutri & Son Theatrical Costume Jacket
Details
A stunning artefact of British history, we have been utterly enamoured by this item ever since we found it. It is incredibly difficult to let it go, and we have held on for a long, long time.
It is a one-of-a-kind costume jacket, made by the famous British theatrical costume designers W. Mutrie & Son, who were active from the mid 1800s. It is likely imitating 18th-century Georgian/Regency military attire, something which is evident by the display brass buttons which wouldn't have served any real physical purpose.
It has gorgeous velvet panelling, and the shoulders give a very flattering feel. Though designed as a dramatic stage piece, it is made with the kind of handmade craft and care that is rare to come across in modern fashion.
It has a few minor holes, and all visible flaws have been pictured. It has minor fading, as you can see, on the arms and the shoulders, and overall fade. Nothing seriously noticeable when it is on until you look close. There is a small repair on the back, but given its age, it is in lovely condition. Moreover, it is a garment embedded with significant historical worth.
