Rare Antique 1920s/1930s Silk Gown with Hand-Scalloped Details
Details
An incredible piece of early-century glamour that is beams with beauty and history. This pale, pastel pink nightgown is almost too pretty to comprehend. We could imagine it being worn to a high-society garden party or perhaps an old-fashioned summer wedding. The silk is of incredibly high-quality, with a marvellous, waxy sheen that glistens in the light. Based on condition of the silk, it was likely traditionally finished in a way to give it a longevity and quality rarely seen today. It has sturdy, hand-stitched French seams, and the neckline and hem have been meticulously, and laboriously, finished with hand-stitched scalloped edging. It appears that the lovely scarf was added at a later date, something rather common in that period.
