Rare Antique Victorian Edwardian Beadwork Fire Screen Banner with Tassels | c. 1890-1910
Details
An incredibly, incredibly special late Victorian to early Edwardian beaded needlepoint fire-screen panel, finely worked in a deep blue, silver, bronze and muted purple tones. The central floral medallion is surrounded by an intricate beaded border, with its original brass hanging rod, twisted cord edging and two beautifully made tassels still present.
You can imagine this hanging beside a dark wood fireplace, in a hallway with old oak furniture, or as part of a moody, layered Victorian-inspired interior. An authentic and beautiful piece of history made to be looked at closely, with every tiny bead and stitch catching the light differently, from a time when things were made with much more time, care, and significance.
Materials:
Handworked needlepoint and beadwork textile with brass hanging rod and decorative tassels
Era:
c. 1890–1910, late Victorian / early Edwardian
Measurements:
Length: 21"
Width without brass bar: 16.5"
Width including brass bar: 20"
Condition:
Good antique display condition overall. There are areas of thinning and thread loss to the blue woven ground, along with minor wear to parts of the beadwork, as shown clearly in the photographs. The reverse has some age-related discolouration and the textile is a little dusty from storage. The brass rod and tassels remain with the piece. This is best enjoyed as a decorative historic textile rather than used close to an active fire
