Rare Vintage 1980s YSL Rive Gauche Picasso Collection Black & Ivory Suit

The centrepiece of their Autumn/Winter 1970 - 1980 Picasso collection, this Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche two-piece trouser suit is a magnificent find for any high-end fashion collector. Designed exquisitely, with oversized buttons and gathered shoulders upon a cropped collarless jacket, then paired to perfection with a set of high-waisted trousers. The colouring is simple yet bold, with blocks of black and ivory that flip sides at the waistline, creating a mesmerising effect.

The set is associated with Saint Laurent's exploration of Picasso and the Harlequin, whilst the piece also exists as a monument to the designer's emphasis on creating womenswear that reflects a strong, authoritative femininity. 'Rive Gauche' was established on Paris's Left Bank to bring fashion-forward couture collections to a younger clientele. An eccentric work that remains remarkably wearable, this special ensemble is made for a woman who walks with confidence.

Condition:

A real piece of designer vintage history in good condition. It could use some TLC from the right person. The cream sections have brown/yellow marks throughout, including a mark at the crotch area that is hidden when worn. There is a faint ink mark around the cuffs and three very small areas of thinning the trousers. The top lining is yellowed and torn beneath the right arm. The tag has been cut out of the pants (don't ask us why). All flaws have been noted and photographed.
